A check is stuck or failed

Still scanning after a few minutes

A typical check finishes in about a minute; a long document with many matches can take two or three. If the sweep is still moving after five minutes, reload the page: the report picks up where the check is. If it shows Failed, see below.

The check failed

A failed check does not spend your credits: the reservation is released. Choose Check again to run it once more. Most failures are a temporary problem fetching a source or a provider hiccup, and the second run succeeds.

If it fails twice in a row on the same document, the document itself is usually the cause:

  • A file that could not be read: a scanned or protected PDF, an image with no readable text, an unusual encoding. Copy the text and paste it instead.
  • Text with hidden characters: control characters or zero-width characters from a PDF or a web page. Pasting through a plain-text editor strips them.
  • An unsupported language is refused before the check starts, with the supported list named.

Partly checked

A summary row reading Partly checked means a pass covered part of the document and reported where it stopped (an OCR page limit, a provider that could not answer for some passages). The rest of the report is complete. Check again later to fill it in.

Nothing above helps

Write to us from the contact page with the report's address from your browser and the time it ran. Failed checks are logged on our side with the same address, so that is enough to find it.
