Which styles are supported?

APA 7th, MLA 9th and Chicago author-date. Chicago notes-and-bibliography, with its footnotes and short forms, is not supported yet. If that is what your department requires, tell us and we will say where it sits.

Does it check my existing reference list?

Not yet. The check reads your prose and finds claims that need a source; reconciling an existing reference list entry-by-entry against the paper is on the list, not in the product.

Where does the reference come from?

From the document we actually matched, so the author, title and year on the entry are the ones on the source, not a reconstruction from the way you abbreviated it in the text.
